Gnome Partition Editor (GParted)

GParted is an industrial-strength package for creating, destroying, resizing, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganizing disk usage, copying data residing on hard disks and mirroring one partition with another (disk imaging).

This is the perfect solution for someone who needs to resize partitions on a Hard Drive, but doesn't want to spend the money on a commercial software such as Partition Magic.

GParted is available in 2 different flavors:

1. The Software itself: This is the main program that will install directly onto the operating system. You will need to compile the application once downloaded. You are provided with instuctions on how to do this when you download the latest version.

2. Live CD: This is the precompiled CD. You can boot up any computer with this CD and then adjust the partitions while running this software. The download size is small (About 30MB), this is done so you can easily fit onto most USB keychains.
